I Wish I Could Dance like M.J.

The project is born from an imaginary comparison between Merce Cunningham and Michael Jackson as two revolutionary dance artists. Digging into the bodly archive of a Michael Jackson impersonator and decostructing the movements he emulates, the work investigates the transmission of dance and how people can embody dance movements from different sources. Michael Jackson is a world dance icon, he created some of the most imitated steps ever. Merce Cunningham’s subject was a specific dance codification, an artificial dance away from any consumer satisfaction, showing the restraint immanent to movement and dance as pure activity of the body.
